Hello moms who are Momen it, (and dads, and all the grands)!!! This solid week has been interesting to say the least. Let’s back up just a little….. to Wednesday of last week….
Wednesday was just one of those long days. One kid has practice, then the school is having physicals for sports. So we wait around town for around an hour then head back to the school. Our oldest rides with her friends in the school van. Then we wait….. we waited for what seemed like forever in the parking lot. Our kiddo had to wait to be seen last. Her Blood Pressure was really high and she was having pains in her lower right side. She comes out to the car and tells me that we need to make an appointment with her pediatrician. I checked her blood pressure again several times before she went to bed, and itwas normal before she went to sleep. Apparently there was some teen drama going on and she got worked up about it. ??♀️
So Thursday rolls around. I call her pediatrician and tell them what happened the night before. They asked if it was an emergency. I told them I was guessing not, she didn’t seem to be in pain, and she didn’t say emergency when she got into the car. So, she goes to practice on Thursday, and of course had to sit out. She failed her physical! So the youngest and I go to pick her up from practice, and she starts to tell me about her day. As she is telling me about her day, she starts to tell me about her feeling like she was going to pass out during a test, and how she could not even finish one test, and didn’t ever start the other test, just turned it it. Then tells me that at her lunch, how she was hot, and how her stomach was hurting and how she felt really sick. When we get home she starts telling her dad about her day. We both were telling her how she should have told someone how she was feeling, that was nothing to play with. Then she says, “Well they said last night to get to an emergency doctor or my pediatrician as soon as I can.” I almost hit the floor! I told my lovely child that she failed to mention “EMERGENCY” last night!
So it is now Friday. I take her to the doctor to get checked again and for them to do another physical for school. While there, they ask a TON of questions. The sweetest doctor ever, decides to send us the the hospital for further testing. So off to the emergency room we go!
Once we get to the hospital…………boy……I an under exaggerating when I say it took forever. (But to give the hospital credit, it is in one of the busiest cities in our state.) While there, the staff was super kind. She had to fill a cup, then they took blood and gave her a catheter. Soon (by that, I mean way later?) we went for a few ultra sound images. After the images were done, they took the catheter out, and we waited some more. During all the waiting we watched a cute movie!
I didn’t watch the last 15 minutes of the movie. I am betting it was great!
After waiting a while, the doctor comes in. She tells us the amazing news, our baby does not have appendicitis! Whoo hoo!! They tell us that they think that it is a stomach bug. We end up getting home around 9pm that night. PHEW…
Saturday rolls around….. Super fun day with the grand baby! Then Sunday, another fun day, part of the day.
So on Sunday our youngest kind of sticks to herself. Which this is super abnormal, because she is lovey and wants to know what mom is doing and hoping in each of the rooms just wanting to see what each one of us are up to. Her daddy ask what’s wrong. Her reply was she didn’t feel good. She is laying on the couch in our family room. She said she didn’t want to get near the baby, because she just didn’t feel good. She didn’t have a fever, she was just, blah….. As the night went on, she started getting warm, and said her tummy was hurting. My first thought was “Oh no, tummy ache…part II!”. So, I decided to hang out with her because she seemed pitiful the later it got. My husband came in the room and said that if she isn’t feeling any better, we should go ahead and take her to the doctor.
Now it is Monday morning….She is still pitiful, and our oldest is meh… So they are both home for the day. I make an appointment for the youngest. We go to the doctor, and we get to see the same sweet doctor that I saw with our oldest on Friday. She test our baby girl for strep, and then gives her medicine for strep and congestion. I started the medicine that night, except the cough medicine. The pharmacist said that stuff would keep her up all night. Have y’all ever heard of Ninjacof?
So the next day I try to give her the cough medicine and it doesn’t go so well. I think it kinda smells good, but baby girl….. she says it is disgusting. ? I tried to give it to her several times and she kept telling me she was going to throw it up. Well that was one of the problems we were having when we went to the doctor, so I didn’t want to re-visit that symptom.?
So Tuesday, and Wednesday she keeps her fever and is so pitiful, every time the medicine would wear off. I would have to give her more. Her cough got a bit worse too, so I finally told her, it was not an option anymore, if she wants to get better, she better take the Ninja! ? Pun intended. Early Wednesday morning she gets on a regular schedule of taking her decongestant, the Ninja. ?
Thursday rolls around, and man! She still is keeping her fever when the medicine wears off, and her cough still is nasty. So back to the doctor we go. The sweet doctor tells us that she may have a virus to go along with her strep. UGH… Not what this momma wanted to hear. So they tested her for MONO, and did a viral panel. Mono came back negative, and the viral panel was sent off. I also mentioned that little miss (our oldest) still is having pain in her abdomen. So for her, they are referring her to a GI doctor. So we will see how this goes……..
Now, today is Friday. Baby girl is feeling a little better. That is making us feel much much better. We get a call from the pediatrician. The viral panel came back, and she tested positive for Adenovirus. Here is were google was my friend. I have heard of many, many viruses that children get, but this one, I had never heard of. Even my husband looked at me puzzled when I told him what they said she had. If you are just as curious as I was, you can click on this link. The link will open a new tab and it will tell you all about it. https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/adenovirus.html
It is looking like this virus is on its way out of our home…Woooo Hooooo!!
